Kate Orem is currently serving as Assistant Principal of Northwest Junior High School at the Frederick Douglass Campus in Rochester, New York. Over her thirty years in education she has served in the roles of elementary teacher, middle school math teacher, k-8 mathematics coach, RCSD instructional technology support teacher, building coach, curriculum writer, elementary school assistant principal, adjunct professor of elementary math methods at the University of Rochester, and director of elementary math professional development at the Warner Center for Educational Reform. In 1998 she began working in a bilingual school and was inspired to learn Spanish. She traveled to Costa Rica and spent two summers studying Spanish in order to better communicate with her bilingual students, families, and colleagues.

Kate specializes in coaching school teams and individual teachers in developing effective tier one instruction, MTSS protocols and implementation, applying data to inform instruction and interventions, and in helping school teams to design and implement effective professional learning to increase student achievement and social emotional learning. A self-proclaimed lover of data and a social justice crusader, she delights in working with students to set goals and take an active role in their education. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Earlham College; and both a M.S. in Elementary Education and an Advanced Certificate in Administration from the University of Rochester. She is the proud parent of three amazing teenagers and spends her free time supporting them at theater performances and sporting events.
