Lia Armelin
Lia holds a BA in Psychology and an MS in Education, with specialization in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. She has worked as a bilingual teacher and curriculum and instructional coordinator for over 20 years, thus closely involved with teachers. In addition, for the last 10 years, she has taken on the position of head of middle and high school at a Portuguese-English bilingual school in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She oversees 3 curricula: the Brazilian, the English bilingual, and the international, with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. She has never left the classroom, currently leading a career readiness program in high school, which includes areas like the development of self and world awareness, career planning, and life skills. Furthermore, she has been developing and managing project-based learning initiatives throughout her career, with a couple of prizes earned in the last few years – the “2030 Challenge” (2018) and the “Schools for Climate Movement” (2024), both in the field of sustainability.
Her contact with Data Wise started a while ago, when she took the free online course on edX “Introduction to Data Wise”, after which she came to know Data Wise coach Rafael Korman. They were later involved as he led a full Data Wise project in her school division between 2022-2023. Since then, she has successfully implemented the Meeting Wise framework in her practice as leader of a faculty, as well as a member of leadership at this institution. The project gave rise to a variety of discussions around learning, teaching, and assessment, which she now wishes to further with her training as a certified Data Wise coach.
