Marisa Sorbaro

MarisaSorbaroMarisa Sorbaro started in the New York City School System 20 years ago as an elementary school teacher. Currently she is an Assistant Principal at P.S. 85 in the Bronx serving over 1,000 students grades Pre-K-5. Marisa is passionate about working with teachers to collaboratively develop curriculum that meets the needs of diverse learners with an emphasis on integrating 21st Century skills. To move this work forward Marisa has rolled out the Data Wise Process with all grade level teams at PS 85. This work has proven to be successful in creating engagement around inquiry and insights on ways to modify teaching and learning to foster progress for all students. Before becoming an Assistant Principal Marisa worked for the Superintendent of Districts Nine and Ten in the Bronx. She held the title of Senior Assessment Coordinator under the Office of Testing and Assessment. In this role she managed many initiatives including professional development for Principals and schools in the area of State Accountability Measures, gap analysis based on State Assessments, and proper testing procedures. In this role she also managed the centralized scoring and reporting for all state assessments within her Districts. Marisa has a Masters Degree from Bank Street College in Educational Leadership and a Masters Degree in Multicultural Education from Iona College.
