Dr. Eva J. Thomas is currently the proud Principal of Dr. Walter Cooper Academy School 10 Elementary School and a current member of The NAESP Equity Task Force representing Rochester, NY. She has worked in the field of education for over 22 years. She has 10 years of experience as a classroom teacher. She is a former Senior Director of Youth and Family Services, Assistant Principal, Director of Early Childhood, and a former Senior Manager for students with disabilities. She is a big advocate for all students to receive grade-level and equitable instruction that leads to closing the achievement gap for all scholars. She has an extensive background in family and community engagement. Dr. Eva Thomas received her Bachelor’s in (Elementary Education) from Delaware State College University, Her M.S. in (Special Education) from Nazareth College University, a Dual M.S. in (Administration) from St. John Fisher College University, attended NAESP Mentor Leadership Training for Principals, and received her Ed. D in (Executive Leadership) from St. John Fisher University in 2021.

She has been mentoring principals for the past five years to support their growth and development in elementary schools and district office executive director positions. Finally, Dr. Eva Thomas was recently honored by The Rochester NY Community for “The Making a Difference in Education” award from The Rochester Education Foundation.
